Paulette Alvarado was unanimously approved by the Kitsap County Democratic Central Committee in her run for Kitsap County Treasurer. She is being challenged in the primary by fellow democrat Barbara Stephenson.
Alvarado has been a lifelong democrat who did not support the proposed Charter form of government, although as an elected freeholder, Stephenson did. I saw the Charter as significantly increasing the operating costs of government and severely reducing citizen representation said Alvarado.
Alvarado has been the accounting manager for the City of Poulsbo for the past 25 years. Last year, her accounting team earned the national Government Finance Officers Award for their Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFR). She earned national certification as a Certified Municipal Finance Administrator five years ago and is certified as a Public Finance Officer by the Washington State Finance Officers Association.
She also served as President of the Washington Municipal Treasurers Association this past year and on the advisory committee appointed by the State Treasurer to review the statewide contract for servicing of all municipal bonds in Washington State.
State Treasurer Michael J. Murphy originally encouraged Alvarado to run for the office, and she has been endorsed by Bremerton City Treasurer Rich Hanna, Kris Tompkins, the Port Orchard city treasurer, Poulsbo Finance Director, Donna Bjorkman, Ron Strabbing, the Grays Harbor County treasurer, and Spokane County Treasurer Linda Wolverton.
