On Thursday, June 13, the Maurice S. Mathis Guild will hold its third annual Garden Party luncheon to benefit Harrison Memorial Hospital at Kitsap Golf & Country Club on June 13. The event will start at 11:30 a.m. and will showcase the works of 10 local artists. There will also be elaborate theme baskets as part of a silent auction and a raffle which includes such items as a day at the Gene Juarez Spa.
Unique to this art auction is the fact that art pieces will be shown in a fashion show format a concept created by the Mathis Guild. The artists are submitting four pieces each which will be modeled by Harrison Hospital CEO David Gitch; Pankja Sharma, M.D.; building contractor and former Bremerton Mayor Louis Mentor; and Elliott Gregg, President and CEO of Kitsap Community Federal Credit Union.
The local artists and their medium include Gwen Atwood-Acrylic; Scott Curry-Glass; Sue Dixon-Acrylic or Oil; Dale Hugh Klokker-Dysfunctional Mind sculpture; Linna Lawrence-Ceramics; Susan Lockwood-Wood & Acrylic; Terry Mestrovic-Collage; Susan Sweetwater-Mixed Media; Ken Vanderdoos-Acrylic; and Deborah Vaughn-Oriental Collage with fabric & Oriental objects.
There will also be a photo opportunity available with both Mentor and Gitch at 8:45 a.m. at Harrison Hospital.
The Mathis Guild, founded in 1961, has held numerous fundraisers to benefit Harrison Hospital throughout the years and is continuing to fund Kangaroo Kapers, a program for pre-schoolers who are about to have a new brother or sister, and to purchase equipment for urgent hospital needs.
Proceeds from this event are specially earmarked for the purchase of a Wallaby III Phototherapy System for in-home treatment of jaundiced newborn babies in addition to providing special mattress and pillow covers for home use by asthmatic patients and fund scholarships for Diabetes education.
