Wileys Body Shop, which is a bit of a Port Orchard landmark, recently earned official EnviroStars certification at the four star level. The Bremerton-Kitsap County Health District coordinates the EnviroStars program and a special auto body project with the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
Wileys certified by exceeding hazardous waste and air protection requirements and setting goals for an annual renewal visit by EnviroStars staff.
I feel that in todays world, it is important that consumers be made aware of how businesses that handle or deal with hazardous waste type materials are disposing of them. Proper and safe disposal is a must, stressed owner John Latham.
To ensure that his shops pollution prevention commitment remains strong, Latham has posted his EnviroStars goals and expects all employees to support them. Latham also designated one of his employees, Chris Sirianni, to coordinate future environmental efforts at the shop. Sirianni is receiving additional training and will perform daily inspections at the facility.
A visitor to Wileys Body Shop will not only enjoy the beautiful water view and hot coffee but an extension collection of historic automobile memorabilia in the comfortable waiting room. In the shop area visitors will see an organized and clean waste storage area for coolants and oil, which are recycled on site. Used thinner from the painting process is also recycled on site and significantly reduces hazardous waste. The paint booth employs a series of industrial filters and special high volume, low pressure (HVLP) spray equipment for the efficient application of paint.
Any wastes not eliminated, reduced, or recycled are taken to the Kitsap County Moderate Risk Waste Collection Facility near the Bremerton National Airport. Latham feels strongly about the role his business can play in protecting Kitsap Countys quality of life.
My family and I love living in Kitsap County and it is essential to me that my business does its part in keeping our neighborhood and our county clean, he stated.
