Verksted Gallery celebrates 15 years |
 |
| Childrens art among much to be seen at the Verksted Gallerys 15th anniversary celebration this month. |
April 20 marks the 15th anniversary of downtown Poulsbos Verksted Gallery.
The gallery has been hosting a birthday party for the town as long as the original members can remember, but because 15 years is such a milestone, this year promises to be a gala Saturday event - and the public is invited to visit the gallery, partake of complimentary punch and cookies, enjoy special gift promotions, door prizes, drawings, and face painting.
Over the years the gallery has donated time, space and artwork to special causes in and out of the community, including helping a fellow artist in New York when her studio was devastated and her work lost due to the events of Sept. 11.
Childrens art has been displayed at the gallery periodically as a fun way for young people to get involved in the process of making and selling art, and face painting has become a tradition at the birthday celebration each year by members with proceeds going to Poulsbos Marine Science Center.
The gallery is owned by a cooperative of 35 local artists and craftsmen. Many of them, members from the very first year, are master craftsmen, self taught folk artists, and fine artists with University degrees, but all share the common love of creating. They also share the ability to work at the gallery and participate in the day-to-day business.
