Young soloists featured In orchestra concerts

The March concerts of Bainbridge Orchestra under conductor Kathleen D. Macferran feature diversity in both repertoire and personnel. The Orchestra itself a multigenerational ensemble whose members come from as far away as Kingston, Port Orchard and Auburn. They will perform symphonic works by Gliere, Respighi, and Sibelius (the famous and beautiful “Swan of Tuonela”), a piece for brass ensemble by Giovanni Gabrieli and a woodwind parody, “Octoot,” by Peter Schickele aka PDQ Bach.

The program also features a major neo-classical chamber work, Ernest Bloch’s Concerto Grosso for String Orchestra and Piano (1924).

Three talented young musicians will appear as soloists in these concerts: Lia Hardy, six, and Emma Sheffer, ten, both of Bainbridge Island, will perform music by Weber and Clementi, respectively. Fifteen-year-old Aaron Otheim of Bremerton will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, K. 491.

The Bainbridge Orchestra performs at The Playhouse at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 and at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors, $14 for adults and are available at the BPA Box Office, or they may be charged by phone at (206) 842-8569.
