Naval Submarine Base Bangor near Silverdale has been voted by readers of the Navy Times as the world’s best Naval base. “I have always known that Bangor was a top-notch installation, but to be honored by your peers within the Naval community is particularly meaningful,” commented first district Congressman Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island).

Inslee noted that the survey cited Bangor as tops in community spirit as well. “This award speaks volumes about the partnership the Navy has formed with the surrounding community,” he said. The congressman cited the Naval Hospital Located in Bremerton as “a tremendous facility dedicated to the health and well-being of the sailors and the families. Many Navy families who have children with disabilities are stationed here because of it.”

The more than 4,000 surveys collected pointed to several quality of life aspects that helped Bangor garner the winning spot.
