Olalla sculptor completes three
part project for Pierce County

Olalla metal sculptor, Gary Jackson recently completed a three-part project for Pierce County’s new Bonney Lake Transit Center. Jackson’s studio, Sunburst Metalworks, was chosen to do all the stainless steel work for the Center, including ‘bright work’ (structural parts) for three shelters, signage and an art installation.

“This was a six-month project,” says Jackson. “It was a good, challenging combination of fabrication, design and art.”

Jackson is one of a very few regional artists who work in stainless steel. The fabrication phase involved creation of window frames, benches, leaning rails and down spouts, “...we were glad to finally start on the arty phases — the stainless steel signage and the mural.”.
