Best Buy opens in Silverdale

Just when you thought Silverdale had one of everything, another big box retailer has shown up.

Best Buy, a consumer electronics retailer, has opened for business in the 45,000 sq. ft. former location of Fred Meyer on Ridgetop Blvd. between Mickelberry and Myhre Roads. Fred Meyer closed on May 19.

That stretch of road is becoming consumer electronic central, with Costco and the Good Guys within sight of the new entry, and Circuit City around the corner on Mickelberry.

Best Buy is the nation’s leading retailer of electronics and the Silverdale store is one of six being opened in the Puget Sound region.

The store has hired a full time, non-commissioned staff of 120 associates. Entry level salaries are $6.50 per hour.

Best Buy sells all types of electronic gear including computers, standard and flat screen monitors, personal digital assistants, TV’s stereos, DVD players, video game consoles, digital and film-based cameras, MP3 players, wireless and land line phones, movies video games and more.

Based in Eden Prairie, Minn., Best Buy operates more than 400 stores in 41 states. The Puget Sound expansion is part of a larger plan to expand to 550 stores nationwide by 2004.

Best buy is no stranger to Silverdale. The company also owns the Magnolia Hi Fi, Musicland and Sam Goody chains, which all have outlets there.
