The Kitsap County Republican Party is calling for a countywide vote on whether or not to build the proposed governmental center in downtown Bremerton.
The Republicans also say it is irresponsible for the two Democratic county commissioners, Chris Endresen and Tim Botkin to allocate any further county funds to the project until the legality of the pending lawsuit concerning the move of the county seat has been resolved.
Any move of the county seat must be done by a vote of the residents of Kitsap County.
It is also unclear whether it is legal for the Kitsap County Housing Authority to be the lead financial agency for this type of development something which could result in additional lawsuits.
Republicans added that there are currently too many unresolved issues to expect a successful outcome for the project; and in their view too much county money is being rushed into investment in only one of Kitsap Countys cities. They also cited location difficulties, lack of existing infrastructure, parking and increased pollution as problems.
Republican commissioner Jan Angel is on record as opposing the project. |
