The Kitsap County Solid Waste Division has announced that scrap metal is no longer being accepted for recycling at most Drop Box locations. These include Bainbridge Island, Hansville, Poulsbo, Silverdale and Olalla.

According to the county’s recycling coordinator Dave Peters, local recycling markets for scrap metal are depressed due to an oversupply of cheap steel entering the country from Asia. Peters noted that Navy City Metals in Gorst and the recycle center at the Olympic View Sanitary Landfill will still accept scrap metal for recycling.
