Digital drivers licenses are now available locally from the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL).
The new licenses are created using a new digital imaging process. The front of every card features a view of Mt. Rainier, larger and bolder printing, and a digital portrait of the individual. Printed on the back are the individuals endorsements and restrictions along with barcodes containing machine-readable information matching the information printed on the cards face.
Identity theft is a growing problem throughout America, explained DOL Director Fred Stephens. The new digital driver license includes security features to help protect against fraud and tampering.
Drivers will receive a temporary black and white license which is valid for 30 days. The permanent license will be produced and mailed within seven days. Law enforcement, financial institutions and retailers should honor the temporary black and white license as an acceptable form of identification when combined with a valid old-style license. |
