Port of Bremerton Commissioners recently approved a feasibility study for the expansion of the Bremerton Marina. Westrec Marinas of Los Angeles will conduct the study. The firm is the largest marina services company in the nation and currently operates in over 25 marina facilities throughout the country.
The 90-day study period was approved for the purpose of analyzing the ability to expand the existing 50-slip marina which is situated between the new transportation center and the U.S.S. Turner Joy, and to determine the market potential if additional slips were to be added.
The timing is right for this study, said Commissioner Cheryl Kincer.
With the new energy for redevelopment of downtown Bremerton, now is the time to determine what, if anything. we can do with the potential of the marina site. We are very enthused that this study is going to begin, said Bremerton Mayor Lynn Horton. It has always been assumed that there is growth potential for the Ports marina and now this study will determine the facts and feasibility of a project of this magnitude.
Upon completion of the study and review by the port commissioners, the next step In the development process will be decided. |
