NCA names 2001 scholarship winners

Northwest College of Art (NCA) recently announced the recipients of a variety of student scholarships.

Competitions open only to incoming freshmen include the Art Now Scholarship, available to any Kitsap County senior. This year the $1000 tuition waivers were presented to Antonio Holquin and Jamie Santillan, both from Olympic High School.

Johanna Chambers, a Port Angeles High School senior, won the Freeman $4000 Merit Scholarship Award. John Gleffe, Jr. of North Kitsap High and Joel Hinxman of Hellgate High in Missoula, Mont. each received NCA’s $1000 Need-Based Scholarship.

Each semester a $500 continuing scholarship is awarded to qualified sophomores, juniors and seniors. This year awards have been presented to seniors Aubrie Baker and Susanna Haines, $250 each. Sophomore Sergio Santander has twice won a $500 award and Rhett Murray earned the $500 last semester and again this June. Murray, currently a senior, has been honored with several other scholarships, including the 4th Annual $2000 Kitsap Credit Union Community Service Award, in association with the Scottish Rights Masons, and the annual Barbara Krell Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000, sponsored by the Viking Fest Corporation of Poulsbo.
