Suquamish artist honored in New York

Suquamish watercolor artist Mary Carlton, a signature member of both the American and Northwest Watercolor Societies, recently was presented with the Gold Medal of Honor and a $3,000 prize by the American Watercolor Society for her painting, “Friends.” The award was presented at the American Watercolor Society’s 134th annual exhibition held recently in New York City. “Friends” was chosen as one of 120 entries for the exhibition from approximately 2,000 submissions from the U.S. and Canada.

The American Watercolor Society was founded in 1866 and is the oldest and largest watercolor group in the nation.
