Art for the ancients

An afternoon of art, food, and music to raise funds and awareness for ancient forests.

Bainbridge Island artist Naomi C. Rose and the Pacific Crest Biodiversity Project will join together on Sunday, June 10 from 2-5 p.m., to bring the public an inspirational and informative event on the ancient forests of the Pacific Northwest. The event will take place at the Freeman Gallery, Northwest College of Art, which is located at 16464 State Highway 305, in Poulsbo.

Rose’s acrylic paintings of the Northwest rainforests will hang in the Freeman Gallery at the Northwest College of Art in Poulsbo, while the Pacific Crest Biodiversity Project will provide information and a slide show on forest restoration and protection efforts. The afternoon will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and music.

The Pacific Crest Biodiversity Project works to protect and restore the ecological integrity of our forests. It seeks to inspire citizen action to end commercial logging on public lands, end old-growth logging regardless of land title, and reduce wasteful consumption of forest products. Its methods include public advocacy, community awareness, policy analysis, coalition building, forest monitoring, and when appropriate, nonviolent direct action.

Rose received her BFA from Northwest College of Art in 1998. Since then, she’s shown her work at numerous venues in the Pacific Northwest. Her paintings will be in the Freeman Gallery throughout the month of June and may be viewed at www.pcbp.org.

Greeting cards, prints, and paintings will be for sale at the event. Twenty percent of art sales will be donated to the Pacific Crest Biodiversity Project.
