Concrete sculpture at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts

There will be a summer “dig” of Little and Lewis sculpture, a fantasy archeologist’s playground of classical aesthetics, Mediterranean warmth, and a Latin indulgence of color at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts (BAC) from June 16 to July 29.

Combining their love affair with gardening and their spiritual affinity for the rich artistic heritage of past cultures, Little and Lewis expand the limits of concrete as an artistic medium. In their hands it is at once subtle and bold, delicate and enduring.

From larger-than-life vegetation that graces their own gardens, the artists mold finely detailed wall hangings, fountains, and free-standing sculpture in warm earth tones, evocative patina blues and greens, aged yellows, and muted reds and oranges. Cameo splashes of cottage-garden perennials, sprays of tropical exotics in bloom, and vignettes of lush fruit ripening on the vine frame mirrors or stand alone for patio, atrium, and the well-appointed garden alcove. Uneven finishes suggest the working of time and weather on remnants of past cultures.

Their new work will be at BAC for an extended summer exhibition that encompasses the Bainbridge in Bloom garden tour July 14-15.
