The Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) in the Island Village Shopping Center on Bainbridge Island recently became an authorized U.S. Postal Service (USPS) retailer. Doing so allows MBE to offer its customers USPS products and extended hours without the hassle of going to the Post Office.

The products and services include First Class, Priority, Express, and Global Priority Mail, as well as certified, registered, insured and return receipt services. Postage stamps are available at face value cost.

The arrangement is part of a pilot program instituted by the USPS aimed at increasing the number of retail establishments providing USPS services and products and increasing the level of customer service. Upon completion of the pilot program, the USPS will evaluate the results and make a decision on formalizing long term arrangements with its vendors.
