Audion wins two industry awards

Bainbridge Island’s Audion Laboratories has won two prestigious industry awards presented at the recent National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention.

The company won “The Radio World ‘Cool Stuff’ Award” and Broadcast Electronics (BE) “2001 Pick Hit” awards for the company’s first PC version of VoxPro, its nationally recognized digital audio voice editing software. The software had previously only been available for the Macintosh platform.

VoxPro PC has enhanced features and functionality, including the ability to import and export .WAV, AIFF, MP3 and other popular file formats as well as work with most popular sound cards. VoxPro PC users can now join VoxPro Mac users to do real time editing in the field, online, or in-studio for breaking news, entertainment or other voice communications.

Radio World, the largest weekly newspaper for radio managers and engineers selected the software from more than 250 radio and audio exhibitors representing “hundreds, if not thousands of new products” said Editor Paul McLane.

McLane also stated “The Radio Cool Stuff” is a significant accomplishment. It means Audion’s VoxPro was selected by a panel of veteran broadcast engineers, industry journalists and production/voice-over experts as notable for its design, features, cost-efficiency, and performance in serving radio users. “VoxPro caused our judges to stop in the aisles and say, Oh, cool!”

BE Radio Magazine’s “2001 Pick Hits” represents the 10 best new radio products shown at the NAB convention. A panel of industry professionals selects the products. Judges operate independently from one another and remain anonymous to everyone, including other Judges until the selection meeting.

According to BE Editor Chriss Scherer, “This ensures that products chosen are truly representative of those having substantial improvement over previous technologies and provide some new approach or application in the products design.” The editorial staff of BE Radio magazine serves only as a moderator during the final selection produces and has no influence or decision in determining the winners.
