Island sculptor’s work wins Alaska show award

Bainbridge Island artist Roy Peratrovich, Jr., has been notified that his bronze sculpture, “Sea Otter - Medviedki” received the Juror’s Choice Award in the Alaska Native Heritage Center’s Second Annual All Alaska Native Juried Art Show in Anchorage, Alaska. The award included a $1,000 prize.

Art from the show will travel to the Peabody Essex Museum near Boston for display throughout the 2001-2002 winter season. Peratrovich’s sculptures “Sea Otter - Medviedki” and “Raven Dance” will be featured in the exhibit. The Peabody Essex Museum, with 30 galleries, is the oldest continuously operating museum in the United States, and is one of New England’s largest museums.
