Power Squadron offers “Boat Smart” course

The Bremerton Power Squadron’s four-week “Boat Smart” course will start April 11. Classes will be held on Wednesdays at the Port Orchard Yacht Club, 201 Bay Street, at 7 p.m. subsequent classes will be held on Wednesdays as well.

It‘s not necessary to pre-register, and boat ownership isn’t required. Course material is suitable for those 16 years of age and older. There is a $25 charge for course materials, which can be shared by the entire family.

The class is an excellent way for new boaters to learn the basics. Topics include the handling of sail and power craft, knot tying, federal requirements, aids to navigation, rules of the road, marine radiotelephone procedures, and boating safety.

Successfully completing the course meets the educational requirements for boat operations in all states, and qualifies boaters for discounts on most boat insurance policies.
