Poulsbos Verksted Gallery will preview two new artists next month, the husband and wife team of Karen and Norman Geiger and Trudi Peek.
The Geigers make beautiful sterling silver jewelry which incorporates lapidary work. They use traditional styles of casting and fabrication, often starting with that perfect stone and taking the design from there to a finished wearable piece which incorporates sterling silver and sometimes 14K gold.
They also use reticulation in many of their pieces, a method of heating the metal to the melting point in order to separate the silver from the sterling. This process brings the silver to the surface in an exquisite rippling effect.
Peek, a retired illustrator from the University of Washington, is a stone painter who creates whimsical mini-painted stone sculptures which sit independently or can be wall mounted. Her unique animal portraits are painted on stones from the Pacific Northwest. Each rock is painted with transparent watercolor, insuring the beauty of the stone will still show. Each stone is finished with acrylic spray for durability, and elk leather is used for pedestals and as padding. |
