Steelhead donates to Marine Center

The Poulsbo Marine Science Center recently received a donation from Steelhead Productions of over $15,000 worth of exhibit displays. The Science Center, located on the waterfront in Poulsbo, is a community-sponsored enterprise that depends on volunteers and donations for its survival.

The center was in need of new exhibit structures and had no excess funds to purchase them. A volunteer contacted a friend of hers from Steelhead Productions, which is in the business of building award-winning exhibit displays for such companies as Flow International, Eddie Bauer Corporation, Onyx Software and others, hoping it would have a retired exhibit to donate.

Steelhead has a history of working with the Science Center, and sure enough, Scott Magraw, co-owner of Steelhead had a perfect match for Science Center’s need. Five tall and slender kiosks from a three-year old exhibit, that normally would have been auctioned, were delivered by Magraw in January and placed throughout the Science Center.

Two now reside in the gift shop and two more are in the exhibit area. The fifth is being prepared for a featured exhibit. Michelle Benedict, Director of Poulsbo Marine Science Center commented, “The addition of high quality exhibits strengthens our education facility tremendously.”

The company has a history of supporting community efforts such as the Science Center and encourages its employees to be involved in environmental efforts as well. Last August, the company donated a large supply of scrap aluminum to Cub Scout Troop 536. The recycled aluminum brought $278 of hard cash to the troop.

The firm also recently donated a fax machine and cell phones to the YMCA battered women’s shelter in Bremerton.
