Bumbershoot seeks participants

Bumbershoot, The Seattle Arts Festival seeks artists, performers and vendors for its 2001 Labor Day weekend arts celebration at the Seattle Center. Festival dates are Aug. 31 to Sept. 3. Visual arts exhibits open in the Northwest Court rooms from Aug. 2 through Sept. 3.

Bumbershoot showcases the work of over 2,500 regional and national artists including comedians, dancers, painters, poets, sculptors, acrobats, filmmakers, bookbinders, DJs, thespians, and musicians of every genre. In addition to stage performances and gallery exhibits, artists are encouraged to submit non-traditional, unusual and exciting ideas that create parades, spectacles and surprises at Bumbershoot.

Applications are now available in the categories of Special Projects (hands-on public art, outdoor installations, kids activities, spectacle and surprise), Visual Arts (individual and collaborative exhibits), Performing Arts (musicians, dancers, comedians, performers for young audiences and theatrical productions), Art Market (hand-made crafts), International Bazaar (imported crafts), Taste of Seattle (food booths), Artists in Action (face painters, balloon artists, etc.), Literary Arts (literary readings and a small press book fair), and the 1 Reel Film Festival (short format film).

All applications must be postmarked or delivered
to the One Reel Productions by 5 p.m. on the deadlines below:
• Special Projects proposals : Feb. 16
• Visual Arts applications : Feb. 16
• Performing Artist applications: March 1
• Art Market, International Bazaar and Artist in Action applications : March 2
• Literary Arts and Bumbershoot Book fair applications : March 6
• 1 Reel Film Festival applications: May 1
