United Way raises over $3 million

Thanks to the generosity of Kitsap businesses and local residents, this year’s Kitsap United Way annual fundraising campaign brought in $1,515,000 to benefit Kitsap County charities.

To celebrate, Kitsap United Way held a victory luncheon on Jan. 17 that saw nearly 150 community leaders, volunteers and United Way supporters attend.

“When you raise this much money for the good of the community, it’s definitely a reason to celebrate!” said a jubilant Barbara Stephenson, Kitsap United Way Executive Director. “We have so many people to thank for the success of this year’s campaign.”

Over 200 volunteers participate in the annual fundraising campaign, including board members, campaign coordinators who lead United Way campaigns in their work places, “Loaned Executives” who share the organization’s story with local businesses as well as employee groups and retired senior volunteers who help behind the scenes.

Funds raised help finance the programs of 30 local health and human service agencies. Each year, Kitsap United Way agencies serve over 100,000 local residents – more than a third of the county’s population.

While the Kitsap United Way campaign raises funds from non-Federal employees and local businesses, this year’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) which raises funds from area Federal employees, also brought in $1,519,380.

“The people of this community care about their neighbors,” added Stephenson. “Their generosity will literally save lives and bring hope – and help – to people in need.”.
