Several local chambers of commerce, the county commissioners and the Kitsap County legislative delegation have scheduled a ferry rally for Feb. 22. The gathering will be held on the steps of the State Capitol in Olympia at noon, and aims to send a message concerning ferry service to the attention of all Washington legislators, as well as Gov. Gary Locke and the Department of Transportation.
The level of service, including the need for capital improvements to vessels and terminals, fare increases, and ferry scheduling are important issues for this legislative session, said Rep. Beverly Woods, R-Poulsbo, who strongly encouraged Kitsap County residents to attend. Its important that all legislators, especially those that sit on the Transportation Committee, hear from those who ride the ferries, or rely on its service for economic viability, just how important this issue is to our community.
Be sure your voice is heard and mark your calendar to attend this important rally, Woods said. A fast-passenger ferry will be available from Bremerton to Olympia.
Woods office is coordinating the rally and can be reached at (360) 786-7842 for information. |
