Suquamish Auto Repair, owned by Larry and Debbie Goodwin, is the latest business to become EnviroStars certified. The shop has earned recognition at the Four-Star level.
EnviroStars is a regional recognition program that certifies businesses at the Two to Five-Star level after a thorough facility evaluation, operations review, and waste reduction goal setting.
According to EnviroStars coordinator Elizabeth McCloskey, Suquamish Auto Repair earned four stars as a result of their serious commitment to hazardous waste reduction and pollution prevention including buying bulk oil; recycling used oil, draining oil filters, antifreeze, refrigerants, batteries, and solid wastes such as scrap metals, cardboard, aluminum, and paper; switching to a non-hazardous parts washer with an on-site filtering system; and offering re-refined oil to customers. The shop was also recently recognized by Green Works for its efforts to recycle solid waste and use recycled products.
Suquamish Auto Repairs efforts to use less toxic products, recycle, and reduce or properly manage hazardous waste are practices that prevent pollution and protect Kitsap Countys wonderful quality of life, McCloskey commented.
The Goodwins, who have owned the shop since 1990, will officially be recognized as EnviroStars at an upcoming Automotive Service Association (ASA) meeting. The group is a trade association that provides educational opportunities and promotes high industry standards.
