Harrison diabetes program earns
ADA certification

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has recognized the Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at Harrison Hospital with its stamp of approval.

The ADA’s certification program is a voluntary process based on the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. ADA-sanctioned programs demonstrate quality through a rigorous peer review process and are based on patient needs and recommendations of the patient’s primary care physician. Certification assures reimbursement by Medicare as well as most other insurance providers.

Harrison’s program was designed for those who are newly diagnosed or have lived with diabetes. It includes personal assessment and one-on-one sessions with a diabetes educator, plus a year’s follow-up. Physician referral is necessary to register.
