Harrison Memorial Hospital recently transferred its ophthalmology surgery services to its new Silverdale campus. Nearly 100 percent of the departments 975 eye surgeries performed annually are outpatient procedures. The new surgery center offers easy access, a private exit for patients, and ample parking, making ophthalmology cases even the emergencies a natural fit for the new facility says Marilyn Raynor, Harrisons director of Surgical Services.
While the most common procedure remains cataract surgery, its just one of a wide range of specialty surgeries performed by the 12 physicians who make up the hospitals Ophthalmology Department. These procedures include: vitrectomy surgeries; laser; glaucoma, endoscopic intraocular; and retinal detachment The department also boasts specialized staff and state-of-the-art equipment.
The move of the ophthalmology department to Silverdale opens room for new procedures at the main hospital says Raynor.
