Local businesses on the sale block?

Is KITZ up for sale? Is the Port Orchard Thriftway getting a new owner?

According to KITZ general manager Kevin Corcoran the answer is yes. He was quoted in a published report as saying the station had been offered for sale. According to KITZ owner Jamison White, who took the helm in October 1998, the answer is a qualified maybe.

White, who lives in New Mexico, admits he’s had about a dozen offers for Kitsap’s only radio station, which has been on and off the air several times in the past 14 years. White also said he’s open to the idea of selling under the right conditions which would include keeping the stations personnel and its current talk format.

White did however caution that selling a radio station is something that doesn’t just happen overnight and is subject to a period of public process and final approval by the FCC.

A sale at the Port Orchard Thriftway remains a question. A store employee told a customer that the reason the shelves were not fully stocked and some regularly stocked items were out was because the store was in the process of being sold.

A call to store owner Sig Uddenberg elicited a very clipped, “No comment. I’m on my way out the door.” He then hung up.
