Bremerton Symphony receives grants

The Bremerton Symphony Association has received a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission. The grant, in the amount of $3,200, is a tangible recognition of the excellent program presented by the Bremerton Symphony Association in the areas of instrumental and vocal opportunities and community enrichment.

The award is specifically for the Organizational Support Program, which will aid the Association in defraying operating expenses. This is the sixth consecutive award from the Washington State Arts Commision to the Bremerton Symphony Association.

The Bremerton Symphony Association has also been awarded a grant in the amount of $2,500, from Washington Mutual to be used for the Association’s Adventure in Music project. This annual education program is directed toward grades kindergarten through six of the West Sound elementary schools. Members of the Bremerton Symphony Orchestra perform musical selections at assemblies in the selected schools and education materials provided by Washington Mutual Bank and the Bremerton Symphony Association are distributed.

For more information on tickets or performances, call the Bremerton Symphony Association at (360) 373-1722, or visit the Symphony Web site at www.symphonic.org. E-mail may be sent to symphony@symphonic.org.

(Editor’s Note: “The Arts” are becoming big business. Kitsap companies have been actively supporting Theatres, the Symphony, playhouses, galleries for years, and we feel it’s time to provide some insight into those cultural activities which enhance our community.
