Johnson files in Mason County

Saying he supports lower taxes, stronger property rights, a smaller and more efficient government that’s accountable and responsive to the people it serves, and preservation of quality of life in Mason County, longtime Skok Valley resident Wes Johnson filed for Mason County Commissioner in District 2. His wife Peggy, served as 35th District state representative for several years.

Johnson, a 40-year resident of Mason County, owns and operates a family farm in the Skokomish Valley west of Shelton and is a retired school administrator in the Seattle and South Kitsap school districts.

A member of the Skokomish Valley Flood Zone Advisory Committee and the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group, he is also concerned about erosion of private property rights, especially with the recent listing of several Puget Sound salmon runs under the Endangered Species Act. He cited the Growth Management Act as one example of government not being responsive to the people it is supposed to serve.

Johnson serves on the board of Peninsula Community Federal Credit Union, is a past commissioner of Volunteer Fire District #9, past chairman of the Mason County Science and Engineering Fair, past president of the Washington State Math Council, and past treasurer of Skookum Rotary. He’s a member of the Shelton-Mason County Chamber, and the National Federation of Independent Business, as well as an elder of the First Baptist Church, Shelton, and a board member of the Mason County Christian School.
