Although somewhat late in doing so, Bill Eickmeyer (D-Belfair) has announced his intention to run for re-election to the 35th District, Position 2 seat he now holds.

Eickmeyer apologized for waiting so long to announce, explaining he is a “downwinder,” one of those exposed to radiation released from the Hanford Reservation in Eastern Washington when he was a child. Due to that exposure, an exceedingly high number of people in his age group have died from cancer.

He had exploratory surgery and a para-thyroid was removed. The abnormal growth was not malignant, nor likely to become so. Eickmeyer said he delayed making any announcement until the results of the surgery were final.
