Labor using seniors for lobbying

Organized labor is enlisting its retirees for a new lobbying effort, akin to earlier ventures that used student activists for pet projects.

The AFL-CIO’s Alliance for Retired Americans is open to all retirees, not just union members, and aims to tap into growing ranks of aging baby boomers.

The goal is to boost political clout, elect pro-labor candidates, win family-friendly legislation, and improve labor’s image in the community.
