Washington leads in high-tech salaries

The high-tech industry created the most new jobs in the U.S. between 1993 and 1998, the American Electronics Association said in a recent study.

The study found that Washington State added 35,883 high-tech jobs between 1990 and 1997, for a total of 97,025 workers.

High-tech industry workers averaged $53,145 in 1997, about 77 percent more than the average private sector wage. The high-tech worker in Washington made $81,375 in 1999 — more than in any other state.
