Edward B. Mitchell, a consultant who specializes in troubleshooting for struggling businesses and streamlining budgets, has announced his intention to seek the 35th District, Position 2 legislative seat currently held by Democrat Bill Eickmeyer of Belfair. Mitchell will run as a Republican.
He holds a degree in accounting and has a career in financial management, working with companies such as Simpson Paper Company, the Boeing Company, and AT&T Wireless. He also headed up the accounting team for the insurance commissioners office after KPS Health Plans went into receivership.
Mitchell believes in making government accountable to the people and says it is time to put state government on a fixed income. He believes the wishes of the citizens expressed through the initiative process should not be infringed upon and that government should protect the rights of Washington residents. This includes property rights, constitutional rights, and the right to a quality education. Mitchell is an advocate of school choice and for ensuring that education dollars make it to the local classrooms.
