Identity thieves and personnel records
should not mix
Personnel records represent one potential risk of identity theft. Because they contain social security numbers and other identifying information, most employers know to keep this information locked up and allow access on a “need to know” basis.
However, most employers keep their I-9 in a separate file. This document contains enough information to give identity thieves all they need.
If they are kept in a separate file, and they should be, are your I-9’s kept in a secure fashion?
