Port Ludlow man named to sentencing board
   Gov. Gary Locke has appointed Port Ludlow resident and Jefferson County Sheriff Michael Brasfield to the Sentencing Guidelines Commission. His term runs through Aug. 2, 2006. He previously served as chief of police of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and assistant chief of the Seattle Police Department.
   The Sentencing Commission evaluates and monitors adult and juvenile sentencing policies and practices and recommends modifications to the governor and the Legislature.

   The Island Grill, located at 321 High School Road on Bainbridge Island, has switched to fresh air by initiating a smoke-free policy for the eatery.
   Owner Brett Hayfield made the decision and his manager endorsed it. “We live in a health conscious community,” notes manager Zach Eberspecher. It was a case of “…the sooner the better.”
