New Westsound branch opens, new VP named
   Michael C. Smith is the new vice president and commercial lending officer at Westsound Bank.
   Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco and brings 22 years of banking experience to Westsound Bank. Smith comes at a time when the bank opens a new branch in Port Angeles at the historic location of the vacant Aggie’s Motel. It is the bank’s third branch.
   Westsound Bank’s other branches are in downtown Bremerton and in Silverdale.

New hot spot for knitters, tea tipplers

   The article notes how owner Kit Hutchin and her staff have created a gathering place on Bainbridge Island. Established in 2000, the shop located at 118 Madrona Lane on the island, has become a destination for knitters, needle-pointers and tea fanciers.

K-9s get protective vests
   Sheriff Steve Boyer announced that the K-9 tactical vests have arrived. K-9 deputies Andor and Ryker now have the newest protective vests to wear during their work. Sheriff Boyer thanks all citizens of Kitsap County whose generous donations made the purchase of these vests possible. The vests are made from the newest protective material and are both bullet and stab resistant.

Bainbridge Island staff stays pat in 2003
   The Bainbridge Island City Council has set a policy of “no net increase” in city staff for 2003. The council’s new policy allows the city council to hire when positions become vacant. The city now employs about 125 people full and part time.
