Martin Hern started his familys connection with car sales when he opened Courtesy Chevrolet in Seattle. More than 25 years later, his son and grandson walked through the doors of the brand new Courtesy Chevrolet in Poulsbo.
The anticipation of cake started it all.
The latest addition to the Courtesy Auto Group is the fourth in Poulsbo and the eighth in total for the son John Hern and his son, J. Rick Hern who started their business in 1982. Pair receives Pathfinder Award |
The Museum of Flight in Seattle has announced the selection of Richard F. Dick Gordon, Jr. and Milton G. Milt Kuolt II as the 2002 recipients of the Pathfinder Award. Gordon, a graduate of North Kitsap High School, is remembered as one of the few astronauts to make more than one space journey.
First given in 1982, the annual award recognizes individuals with ties to the Pacific Northwest who have made contributions to the development of aviation or aerospace. Gordon is being recognized in the flying category, and Kuolt is being recognized in the operations category |

Fat Bastard wins it for Silver City |
The Silver City Brewery Company won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in October for the charmingly named Fat Bastard, strong scotch ale.
The microbrew, served seasonally at the Silver City Restaurant & Brewery in Silverdale, will make its debut as a regular offering Nov. 8. Owner Scott Houmes said the brew also would be bottled and sold at the restaurant and in five stores that carry other Silver City beers. |

Goodwill opens new store in Gig Harbor |
A new Goodwill store opened recently at 4805 Point Fosdick Dr. NW in Gig Harbor.
Tacoma Goodwill Industries, which uses the revenues from its 17 stores in western and central Washington to provide job training for people with disabilities, is also opening a new store in Federal Way, located at 32521 Pacific Highway S., to replace the citys existing store.
The stores hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. |

Simpson Timber selling plywood business |
The Simpson Timber Company of Shelton will sell its plywood panel business to an undisclosed buyer.
Company President Ray Tennison said in a statement that the company would continue to make veneer, the layers that make up plywood panels, and pursue a contract with the new owner to supply veneer.
The sale should be completed in December. Simpson Timber has 273 employees and is a subsidiary of Seattle-based Simpson Investment Company. |

A six-page feature article in the November issue of Dynamic Graphics magazine describes the Super WebGirls design and production process. The article showcases a site Bainbridge Islands Super WebGirl created for Posh Speaker Systems.
