Port Orchard adopts new alarm ordinance |
The city of Port Orchard has adopted an alarm ordinance that calls for businesses with alarms to pay a penalty as well as face civil charges when the police respond to a false alarm.
According to the new schedule, the first false alarm within a 12 month period will incur no penalty. The second and each subsequent alarm will be classified as a civil infraction, and in addition to the civil penalty imposed by the municipal court, there is an additional charge of $50 for each incident response.
Implementation of the ordinance began Oct. 13. |

Bremerton Gateway wins state award |
The Washington State Chapter of the American Public Works Association and the Asphalt Paving Association of Washington have awarded their Asphalt Paving Award to the City of Bremerton. The award is for its new Gateway project, which is the newly built entrance to the city between Highway 304 and Burwell Ave.
Bremerton won in the category, Best Paving Project for a City. The award is jointly sponsored by both groups. |

Cougar Valley Computer adds Saturday hours |
Cougar Valley Computer, Inc. recently announced it will re-open on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The firm will continue to be available to customers Monday through Friday, with regular shop hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Located at 15900 Clear Creek Road, just 3.5 miles from Silverdale, the company custom builds computer systems for business and personal use, and does repair and system upgrades.

Karlyn Group debuts revamped Web site |
The Karlyn Group of Bainbridge Island recently announced the launch of a totally rebuilt industry and consumer tiered web site for its Karlyn Cleat line fastener. The site, located at www.karlyncleat.com, includes a tutorial featuring nine 3-dimensional animations of traditional and unique line tying specific to the Karlyn Cleat.

Port Orchard BPW tops in recruiting |
The Port Orchard chapter of Business and Professional Women/USA has been recognized for recruiting the highest number of new members out of all the chapters in the state.
The group helps local business women network, share career strategies and work on legislative or social issues of importance to women.
The Port Orchard chapter offers two different general meetings per month lunch on the forth Wednesday of the month at the Stafford Inn, and dinner meetings on the second Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Puerta Vallarta Restaurant.

As we go to press on the day after Election 2K, the smoke is beginning to clear in the closest presidential race in our lifetime since Kennedy and Nixon in 1960. Gov. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney came on TV and said the vote count in Florida indicates he has carried the state, which gives him the presidency. A mandatory recount will be conducted to confirm that.
Meanwhile, voters in West Palm Beach have filed a challenge to overturn the election based on the way the ballot was laid out in spite of the fact that same ballot has been used there since 1974.
