Bainbridge Rotary awards grant for BHS recycling

Bainbridge Island Rotary recently awarded a $20,000 community grant to the Earth Services Corps Club at Bainbridge High School. The Earth Services Club provides learning opportunities to the Bainbridge community that raises awareness and improves the environment. Student members discovered that 30 percent of the trash collected from the BHS campus consisted of food waste.

The Rotary funds along with additional grants given to the District will be used to purchase and install an Earth Bin. The Bin is a high-tech composter designed and built by Green Mountain Technologies of Bainbridge. When fully operational, the Earth Bin will save the school district over $1,000 monthly in trash removal costs. On hand to receive the Rotary check was faculty advisor and teacher, Karen Polinsky, and student club members, Grace Salisbury, Tucker Rogers, Marina Phillips, and Annie Lukins.
