The Port of Bremerton will be discussing its progress on the SEED project at its regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow. The meeting is set for 10 a.m. in the meeting room on the first floor of the Norm Dicks Government Center at 6th and Pacific in Bremerton.
Port Commissioner Bill Mahan sent an email asking for supporters of the project to come to the meeting and counter the, “…dedicated group of people that want to kill the SEED project. I am led to believe that the Port Commission is going to be urged to give up its help with creating the non-profit corporation at tomorrow’s Port meeting.”
In that same email Mahan noted that the Port has accomplished the following in support of SEED:
- Established a non-profit corporation to take the project countywide.
- Preparing to call for bid for the road leading into the project.
- Negotiating a contract with the SIRTI Incubator in Spokane to provide staffing and client programs such as marketing, business planning, legal and grant/loan funds.
- Submitting requests for federal stimulas funding for the incubator and first manufacturing building.
- Retained a consultant to prepare the incubator building specs for bidding.
In urging supporters to attend the meeting, Mahan’s email also stated, “When there is no one to provide a balance to those that wish to kill the project, it puts the commissioners that support the project in a difficult position.”
