Gold Mountain Golf to Host National Tournament

Gold Mountain Golf CourseBremerton’s Gold Mountain Golf Course will host the NCAA Men’s Golf West Regional Championship on May 20-22 and the public is invited to watch. The golf course is one of six sites for regional events around the United States, and will host 15 of the top 90 teams in the country.

University of Washington is the organizer of the event with Gold Mountain Golf, and UW’s team will be part of the event. The team is currently ranked No. 3 in the country, so it has good chances of winning to advance to the nationals.

Scott Alexander, director of golf at the complex, said each five-person team will play one round per day, and the top five teams will advance to the national championship. “We very much encourage people to come out and watch. They’ll see some of the future tour players and some of the best players in the country as the players advance down the road,” he said.

Special drawings will be held for the spectators; the daily prizes are a football package, a set of irons and a driver.

This is the second time for Gold Mountain to host the NCAA regional tournament. “We have over 100 volunteers who volunteer their time to help the tournament run smooth,” Alexander said.

Spectators can get free tickets at the door. Tee time will be between 8 and 10 a.m. every morning, May 20, 21 and 22, with rounds being finished by about 3 p.m.
