Advanced Medical Imaging (AMI) recently announced that a new office will be opening in Port Orchard offering Direct Digital Mammography and DEXA Bone Density scans to patients in the South Kitsap area. For the convenience of the 7,000 women in the Port Orchard, Mason County and Gig Harbor areas who are AMI patients, the new location will make these exams much more convenient. The office will be located on the Harrison Medical Center South Kitsap campus at 450 South Kitsap Blvd, Suite 1240, in Port Orchard.
This new technology, Direct Digital Mammography offers several advantages over conventional film mammography including:
- Higher detection rate of breast cancer in women under 50 years of age
- Pre and peri-menopausal women and women with dense breast tissue
- Reduced radiation dose over film mammography
- Increased patient comfort senses breast thickness for more comfortable compression
- Increased cancer detection with CAD-computer assisted diagnosis
- Excellent image quality and ability to electronically manipulate images for more accurate diagnosis
- Fewer callbacks for retake
- Largest detector allows imaging of almost all breast size
Direct Digital Mammography uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor. The images are transmitted and stored as computer files. It is much faster than traditional film mammography, as the images come up instantaneously on the computer monitor and the technologist is quickly able to check for positioning and technique. With digital pictures, areas of concern can be enhanced, manipulated, magnified, brightened or contrasted to enable the radiologist to better read the images.
Advanced Medical Imaging is now accepting patients at the new Port Orchard office. Call (360) 337-6500 or toll free (800) 972-9264 for more information.
