Remember putting on those ugly cardboard glasses so you could watch locomotives crash through the movie screen and into the audience. Probably not, since 3-D at the movies never really did catch on.
But 3-D is coming to a computer screen near you. A Korean company, GTT, plans to manufacture desktop monitors that give a 3-D look to PC displays. GTT expects to market an 18.1-inch liquid crystal display monitor using 3-D technology this year.
You wont have to wear special glasses to see the 3-D effect. Instead the screen uses two separate layers of pixels to create the impression of depth. The first customers for the technology are expected to be from medical and gaming markets. Specialized displays like this are already used in defense and aircraft application. |
