Silverdale-based Donobi, Inc., an Internet service provider, the City of Bainbridge Island (COBI), and the Kitsap Public Utility District (KPUD) announced that the Bainbridge City Council approved an agreement between the three parties to install and carry data over a new fiber optic Wide Area Network (WAN). The WAN interconnects the citys core public offices and provides broadband Internet access for employees in its major departments.
This marks the KPUDs second substantial fiber WAN project to a government entity implemented over the newly completed fiber optic backbone, which the agency has been installing over the past couple of years throughout Kitsap County.
David Jones, KPUD business manager, stated, With the City of Bainbridge Island taking this next step, we are able to extend our fiber build further out to the Bainbridge Island community and complete an additional fiber loop back to Seattle. Kitsap County is not only catching up to other parts of the country, we are poised to surpass them in terms of the quality of data delivery to government, businesses, and homes. Having a local Internet provider like Donobi involved in these projects to keep pricing competitive and deliver the quality of service they provide is a real community asset.. |
