Kitsap Regional Library selects
NW Commnet for fiber installation

The Kitsap Regional Library (KRL) has selected Bremerton’s NW Commnet to connect the library main branch in Bremerton to the Kitsap Public Utility District’s (KPUD) fiber optic network. NW Commnet will also provide Internet services to the library under the agreement.

The project will permit the library system to establish services on the KPUD fiber backbone, which is expected eventually to be connected to most of the existing KRL branches. The project is being constructed in conjunction with other projects, which allows for sharing of construction costs, according to John Stockwell, VP of Engineering for NW Commnet.

NW Commnet is building a fiber optic network that allows customers to connect to the KPUD fiber network, as well as extend between offices. Construction is ongoing in Bremerton, with construction in Silverdale, Poulsbo, and Bainbridge Island in the planning stages. The company completed construction on NSB Bangor this past August.

Because of its ability to install both fiber and copper cable, NW Commnet is constructing the “last mile” connections between the KPUD fiber and customer’s locations. The “last mile” is the final connection to the fiber backbone.

NW Commnet is a joint venture of Convergence Technologies of Bremerton, and Telebyte NW of Silverdale. Convergence Technologies is a registered Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), while Telebyte NW was the first ISP to open for business in Kitsap County. NW Commnet provides construction and maintenance for outside plant such as placing fiber optic cable, and inside plant network such as network wiring for telephone and computer systems; provisioning, installation and maintenance of telephone and computer systems and services.
