NW Commnet announced that it has completed construction of the latest stage of its fiber optic network in Bremerton, as well as to Naval Submarine Base, Bangor. The project extends the existing fiber optic network to customers through NW Commnets co-location facility. The project also connects to NSB Bangor and to the Westin Building in Seattle, where NW Commnet also has a presence.
Construction is complete on this stage of our planned on-going network build, said Vice-President and Chief Engineer John Stockwell. We are continuing to build our previously announced fiber optic network to provide secure wide-band connections for businesses that need to connect multiple offices. Existing customers are banks and medical offices, Stockwell added.
Part of the project entailed building fiber onto NSB Bangor to support our customers on the base. We are linking to our network operating center in downtown Bremerton, as well as to the Westin Building in Seattle. We completed installation of the fiber on Submarine Base, Bangor last month. We expect to begin transporting services from the Westin building to NSB Bangor as early as September 1st, Stockwell said.
Our fiber optic network will continue to extend to new areas of downtown Bremerton, and we are on track to begin construction in East Bremerton in the next thirty days, he stated. We are constructing the last-mile to connect customers to the KPUD fiber, as well as to fiber networks we are installing, Stockwell noted.
NW Commnet constructs the last mile connection between the KPUD fiber and the customers location. With the ability to place fiber and copper cable, NW Commnet becomes the last mile provider for selected locations.
