WSTPA to hear about
tech infrastructure in schools

The West Sound Technology Professionals Association (WSTPA) will hold its May monthly meeting on Thursday, May 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Poulsbo Regional Library Community Room.

Bretta Beveridge will discuss The Student TECH Corps Program, which delivers core technology training and certification to middle school and high school students — then harnesses their knowledge to power a student-run Help Desk to provide valuable technical support in their school building.

She will describe how this program works, which schools on the Olympic Peninsula are interested in implementing it, and sponsorship and volunteer opportunities for local businesses.

“School districts have made significant investments in a wide variety of computer technology and Internet access for teachers, students and staff. However, inadequate tech support threatens the sizeable technology investment made by school districts and schools”, said Beveridge. “The Student Tech Corps program addresses the “tech support” issue head on by providing much needed tech support at the building level, and valuable technology and general workplace skills to students.”

WSTPA meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Those interested in membership or becoming a corporate sponsor are encouraged to visit www.wstpa.org, or email info@wstpa.org.
