| Web searchers want sports and lots of it, says Lycos’s Aaron Schatz. Of the past year’s 20 most-searched news events on Lycos, six were sports-related, more than any other category.
Politics also had a strong showing, boosted by the drawn-out US presidential election. The 20th most-searched story was the tragedy of submarine Kursk. It drew significantly more interest than the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, which ranked 25th.
In order, the top 5 news events were:
